I had written a "Discover Narita airport" article before, but nowadays, there is a lot more to discover. Check out the following 4 tips to get the most out of your time on Narita airport.
1. What's new page of the Narita airport website
On the What's new page of the Narita airport website, you can find the latest news about the airport. From there, I have found out that they regularly have "Introducing Japanese Culture" events. Some examples are:
- a koto (traditional Japanese musical instrument) concert
- making origami and kokeshi (handmade, wooden Japanese doll).
- Bonsai exhibition
- Samurai armor and Maiwai robe wearing
- Ukiyoe printing
2. TABIMORI app
The TABIMORI app is the hospitality app from Narita airport. It provides you with all kinds of useful information, which can be handy during your trip in Japan. Some of the information can also be read offline. Be sure to download the app and clip the information that you need on the airport, where you can enjoy free Wi-Fi.
3. Smart Book
Smart Book is a free quarterly magazine that you can grab at the Narita airport. It contains recommendations and extra information about the seasonal dishes and souvenirs that you can find at the shops and restaurants on Narita airport.4. Nine hours capsule hotel
If one of your dreams is to sleep in a capsule hotel and you haven't had the opportunity to do so during your stay in Japan. You can go visit the Nine hours capsule hotel right on the Narita airport grounds, near the multi story car park. For an overnight stay (9 hours), you pay 3,900 yen. You can also take a short nap during the day, starting from 1,500 yen for the first hour and 500 yen gets added for every hour after that. You can also just take a shower for 1,000 yen. As I don't really like the idea of not being able to lock the pod that I am sleeping in and I just don't like small spaces, it is not something for me. It is quite nice though, since the males and females sleep in two separate parts of the hotel and you get a locker to store your personal belongings. You get a set of lounge wear that you change into, which is great if you don't have a set of pajamas with you. You can also freely take a shower, use the complementary amenities (towels, tooth brush, shampoo, conditioner, and hair dryer), and in the lounge or locker room, you can hang out with your friends with some snacks and drinks. If you have sufficient time, you can also consider taking a short trip to Tokyo Disney Resort (by bus, it takes 60 minutes one-way and one single bus ticket costs 2,450 yen (adults) and 1,230 yen (child)) or Shisui Premium Outlets (by Outlet shuttle bus, it takes about 15 minutes one-way and it costs 500 yen per person). Close by, there is also the Narita-san Shinshoji temple and the Aeon Narita Shopping center.
